How Creditability Shapes The Relationship Between Journalists and Audience

The relationship between the audience and journalists is formed based on credibility amongst the journalist. Remaining truthful to your work and what you share with your audience creates that sense of trustworthiness the audience looks for when it comes to receiving news. Elimination that bias can create a life-long connection with your audience. Although, I do feel that if you do feel strongly towards a certain viewpoint you can have a target audience which could ultimately be beneficial as a last resort. The reason having a target audience can be beneficial is because people search through hashtags for a similar opinion to their opinion. People look for people they can relate to. Maybe they are looking for people who have a big stance on getting people out to vote. They might look at the hashtag “#govote” or search “people for voting.” They want to receive information from people who have similar views as to them, because they know they’ll appreciate their content more than someone who doesn’t care about voting. Then you can reach people who will actively view what you have to say rather than a broad audience.

It’s extremely important to create these lasting impressions on your audience as you want them to return to view your material. It’s not easy to reach a broad audience so finding your target or something you find you are passionate about and want to talk about can bring in active audience members who will engage with your posts and activity on the page. Utilizing those hashtags will help narrow in on that target audience. Being specific with your hashtag I find is the most important. These are great ways to grab your audience’s attention and being authentic to yourself and your brand will create that relationship between you as a journalist and the audience.

As seen in the tweet below by Debra Messing she uses four hashtags to target her audience in as well as tagging the woman from the original tweet. She’s creating that relationship with her audience by sharing her viewpoint and having active listeners.

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>HEY <a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/TEXAS?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#TEXAS</a>!!!!!!
